"I've known and worked
closely with Phil for a period of over 15 years.
In 1989 we were together charged by the Board to
devise a break-through Global Travel
Distribution Strategy for the Thomas Cook Group,
to enable Thomas Cook to achieve leadership
within the worldwide Business Travel Management
Industry and to achieve new and stretching,
performance benchmarks in terms of operating
efficiency and customer servicing. On this
project, and 4 subsequent projects, Phillip
played a pivotal role in helping me to mould a
widely applauded strategic repositioning for The
Thomas Cook Group that ultimately allowed its
owners to sell this once moribund division at a
significant exit premium. Our later work
together on a number of other elements of the
strategic agenda allowed Thomas Cook to derive
similar, significant competitive and operational
advantage within many elements of the worldwide
Travel Industry.
In each of
these assignments I found Phil to possess an
exceptional ability to analyse the root-cause of
why the then deployed technology, within both
the Travel Industry and Thomas Cook, was not
performing and what needed to be developed to
rectify these deficiencies and drive profound
competitive advantage. He has consistently
proved that he is highly innovative in the
development of a workable vision; in then
devising of a cogent strategic technology plan
to attain commercial advantage; and finally
successfully executing all the elements of that
plan to a high, uniform standard. He brings
immense insight in all the key aspects of the
strategic technology and commercial processes -
I fully recognise that the experience gained
from these early projects and subsequently
honed in the leadership of a myriad of strategic
projects delivered in diverse industries
throughout Europe, the United States of America
and Australia, form the basis of a very powerful
iStrategy process toolkit.
